New Dentist and the best I've had - Dr. Pavlotsky, the dental hygienist & receptionist were all incredibly kind & professional. They made me feel at ease & I can actually say I had a very pleasant & even enjoyable experience. As a woman recovering from a long term eating disorder, I've always had fear &anxiety to the point of tears when visiting dentist, but all of that washed away the moment I met Dr. Pavlotsky. She was kind, patient, understanding, and gave me advice as well as words of comfort. She asked all the right questions & let me voice my concerns & share my story. I felt at ease & at peace for the 1st time in my adult life, at 38 yrs old, sitting in a dentist chair! I am very happy to be a new patient and I look forward to remaining a patient there. Absolutely the best dentist practice I've been to. 5 starts and more!!

What should I do in a dental emergency?

If you experience severe tooth pain, significant swelling, a knocked-out tooth, a serious dental injury, or another unexpected problem, contact our office as soon as possible for care instructions and to schedule an emergency appointment. If you have heavy bleeding that won't stop, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe facial trauma, or an injury that may involve your jaw or other serious structures, seek immediate medical attention.

How do I know if my situation is a dental emergency?

Severe or persistent pain, significant swelling, a knocked-out tooth, a badly broken tooth, uncontrolled bleeding, or an injury to the mouth are all examples of an emergency dental situation. A dental problem doesn't necessarily have to be extremely painful to need urgent care, particularly when there is swelling, infection, or an injury involved. If you're ever uncertain about whether or not your situation qualifies as an emergency, it's better to call us and make sure.

What should I do if my tooth has been knocked out?

A knocked-out permanent tooth needs prompt attention. If possible, pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root) and gently rinse it with water if it is dirty. Avoid scrubbing the tooth or removing attached tissue. If you can, place the tooth back into its socket without forcing it; if that isn't possible, keep it in a cup of milk and contact our office right away. The sooner you receive care, the better your chance of preserving the tooth.

When should I go to the ER for a dental emergency?

Go to the emergency room or seek immediate medical attention if a dental injury causes difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, loss of consciousness, or other symptoms that could indicate a serious medical problem. If you aren't sure whether your situation requires the ER, contact our office for guidance when possible.

What can I do to limit my risk of emergency dental situations?

You can't prevent every dental emergency, but there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of unexpected problems. Keep up with regular dental exams and cleanings, practice good oral hygiene at home, wear an appropriate mouth guard during contact sports or other activities that could injure your teeth, and avoid using your teeth to open packages or bite hard objects. Addressing smaller dental concerns when they arise can also help prevent them from becoming more urgent problems.

Dental problems rarely happen at a convenient time, and they can't always wait for your next routine appointment. If you've suffered an injury to the mouth or another unexpected oral health concern, Dr. Anna Pavlotsky Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is available to provide comprehensive emergency dental care.
